|   |   | GingerNutzThe Jungle Memoir of a Model OrangutanBy Michael Roberts. Foreword by Grace Coddington.
The perfect gift for fashionistas of all agesMichael Roberts’ charming text and hand-drawn illustrations tell the story of GingerNutz, an orangutan born in the wilds of Borneo who dreams of making it big in the fashion world. At ten years old, GingerNutz finds a copy of Vogue magazine in a bottle washed up on the beach. Entranced by the glamorous images, the precocious primate sets her mind to becoming a high fashion model. She grooms her coat, creates makeup from exotic flowers and styles her ginger-hued hair. She encounters other like-minded jungle creatures—the creative orangutan duo Disco and Grubbana, a haughty and chic silverback gorilla—who together create their own hyper-stylish coterie, and GingerNutz fulfills her dream of sashaying down the runway. The story of GingerNutz is inspired by legendary model and fashion editor Grace Coddington, the longtime creative director of American Vogue and a close friend of the author. Inspired by Coddington’s best-selling 2012 memoir, Roberts translates Coddington’s discovery of fashion on the isolated Welsh island of Anglesey into a whimsical story about a wild Bornean fashion community. Gorgeously produced in a clothbound edition with a tip-on cover, containing 65 colorful hand-drawn illustrations printed on the highest quality paper, GingerNutz: The Jungle Memoir of a Model Orangutan is a fashionable and fun book that makes the perfect gift for fashionistas of all ages. British fashion journalist Michael Roberts (born 1947) is fashion royalty: former fashion director for Vanity Fair and the New Yorker, he has brought his impeccable style to his work as a writer, illustrator, art director and photographer. He has published several books of his illustrations including The Snippy World of Michael Roberts and The Jungle ABC.

| | FROM THE BOOKFOREWORD, by Grace Coddington
Maybe it’s because I’m usually so preoccupied with my adorable cat family that GingerNutz only recently caught my attention. I wasn’t sure who or what she was, but when a photographer friend of mine raved about her not long ago, I thought, “Wow, she sounds a lot like me!”
We both have frizzy, orangey hair—although mine does not sprout everywhere, thank goodness, because who could afford those hairdressing bills? We both love beautiful clothes, nature, and the sea. And we both have lovely skin that is super-sensitive to sunshine, only I use uncomfortably sticky protective cream while she shelters under a large fresh banana leaf. Earlier, we each found fame as leading fashion models but never crossed paths. Today, we both work with the chicest fashion magazines, yet have still never met...
As my name is Coddington, people called me “The Cod,” which was an unusual nickname for a glamorous model. GingerNutz needed no such nickname, being not just different but unique—the only model orangutan in the entire world. I do hope to meet her someday soon. Meanwhile, here is her story. | FROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 9/7/2017“Once upon a time a baby girl orangutan was born in the Borneo rain forest to parents who were part of a small, secluded tribe of orangutans—creatures who prefer to hide away from the world. Usually it is the monkeys and chimpanzees who become jungle stars, thanks to their sly and cheeky charm. However, on this occasion, everyone agreed no sweeter or more loveable simian than this little orangutan could possibly exist…” So begins the tale of GingerNutz, a Bornean Orangutan modeled after fashion icon Grace Coddington, who goes on to become “one of the defining [orangutan] models of her generation.” Get your signed copy at launch events Friday evening at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Saturday afternoon at BookMarc! continue to blogFROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 9/8/2017“After modeling successfully in her first fashion show, GingerNutz went backstage to try on several creations for the after-show party,” Michael Roberts writes in his cheeky illustrated tribute to friend and muse Grace Coddington. “‘I’m so excited. It’s at The MET,’ she told her parents. ‘That’s the in crowd’s name for Monkeys’ Exclusive Teaparty!’ The entire tribe was by now divided into those on the special guest list and those permitted to stare enviously at GingerNutz and her VIP friends climbing the tall tree to the gala…” See the real Grace Coddington and GingerNutz author Michael Roberts Friday, September 8 from 6-8 PM at … yes, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where they will sign copies of the Fashion Week favorite, new from MW Editions. continue to blogFROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 9/9/2017Come to BookMarc today, 4-6 PM to get your copy of GingerNutz signed by muse Grace Coddington and author/illustrator Michael Roberts, who writes in the Epilogue, “GingerNutz went on to become one of the defining models of her generation. And her species. Discovered by a model scout on holiday in Borneo, she signed up with a New York agency. They wanted to give her a smoother look, but they kept losing their tweezers in her coat. Celebrated for her versatility, “Big Red,” as she became known, was equally at home in a photographer’s studio, on the catwalk, or swinging through the trees. Her trademarks were her ever-changing hairstyles— The Gibbon, The Baboon, The Capuchin, and The Rhesus—all of which had a touch of monkey magic. She also popularized the trend amongst models for nibbling handfuls of slimming nuts, bugs, and berries while hanging upside down from a tree. Late in her career, she considered several occupations before deciding to become a magazine fashion editor after being told, ‘Even a monkey could do it.’” continue to blog | OF RELATED INTEREST | MW EditionsISBN: 9780998701837 USD $27.50 | CAD $37.5 UK £ 24.5Pub Date: 9/25/2018 Active | In stock
