|   |   | Andy Warhol: PrintsA Catalogue Raisonné 1962–1987Edited with prefaces and text by Frayda Feldman, Jörg Schellmann, Claudia Defendi. Text by Arthur C. Danto, Donna De Salvo.
The updated edition of the definitive, authorized catalogue raisonne of Andy Warhol's prints, reproducing more than 1,700 prints -- all in full color with complete scholarly documentationAndy Warhol: Prints, in its fourth edition, with corrections, is the definitive scholarly reference source for collectors, auction houses, libraries, curators, academics and art dealers. Andy Warhol spent his career working so prodigiously as to assure long-lasting renown. In the printmaking field alone, his output was prolific, and his appropriation of silkscreen as a fine-art medium forever altered the way prints look. This thoroughly revised and expanded fourth edition of Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne 1962–1987 traces Warhol's complete graphic oeuvre from his first unique works on paper in 1962 through his final published portfolio in 1987. More than 1,700 works are illustrated, an increase of 500 from the previous edition of the catalogue raisonné, and complete documentation is provided for each. New additions include a section focusing on Warhol's popular portraits, with documentation of prints that were related to paintings commissioned during the 1970s and 1980s, and a new supplement featuring prints and illustrated books from the 1950s, including the beloved 25 Cats Named Sam and One Blue Pussy. An essay by Donna De Salvo addresses Warhol's self-published books and portfolios from the same era. An extensive chronology of printmaking activity, a complete exhibition history, a selected bibliography and a greatly expanded appendix to published prints complete the book.

| | FROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG AUSTIN BOWES | DATE 1/11/2016“Andy Warhol’s images may be as intrinsically shallow or inane as Howdy Doody, which doubtless led Warhol’s critics to think of him as shallow and inane. But such critics were blind to the power these images held for vast populations whose lives they distilled and energized.” So writes art historian Arthur C. Danto in his deep exploration of Warhol's power in visual culture, published in the definitive catalogue raisonné, Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonné 1962-1987, first issued in 1989 and now available in a new, heavily updated fourth edition. continue to blogFROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 11/12/2018The Whitney Museum's major Andy Warhol retrospective opens to the public today, and we're celebrating with this print from the artist's 1967 Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn) series, reproduced from our comprehensive catalogue raisonné of the prints, 1962–1987. "Through his conceptualization of the printing process," essayist Donna De Salvo writes, "Warhol transformed that process into his metaphor for America—its capitalism, its abundance, its industry, and, most important, its simultaneous and contradictory desire for innovation and uniformity—Marcel Duchamp meets Norman Rockwell meets cable television. In the subtle details of a single Camouflage print or the 632 variations of Sunset, we also discover a world of illusion fabricated by Andy Warhol, an artist who in the end got more than he could ever have foreseen when he decided 'not to be imaginative.'" continue to blogFROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 12/9/2015"More than any other artist of his generation, Andy Warhol understood how the reproduced image had come to reflect and shape contemporary life," Donna De Salvo writes in the definitive new edition of Andy Warhol: Prints, A Catalogue Raisonné 1962–1987. "His paintings of Coca-Cola bottles, race riots in Birmingham, Alabama, and the empty desolation of the death chamber are like a catalogue of contemporary hieroglyphs scattered across the American landscape. Warhol's decision to select images from popular culture and combine them with the printing processes of the commercial world was an essential element of his Pop statement. With nearly scientific fervor, he dissected the very mechanics of image production and, through this unexpected commonplace vehicle, discovered a way to be original."
