| | | NEW PUBLICATION Edited by Karen Kelly, Barbara Schroeder. Foreword by Humberto Moro. Text by Lynne Cooke, Julian M. Rose, Corinna Thierolf, Edward A. Vazquez. Conversation with Matilde Guidelli-Guidi, Curtis Harvey.
In 1968, sculptor Fred Sandback (1943–2003) mounted his first solo exhibition at Heiner Friedrich’s Munich gallery, displaying works made from elastic cord or acrylic yarn that traced planes and volumes in space. Thus began a long-term relationship that extended to Dia Art Foundation, the institution cofounded by Friedrich in 1974. Until now, there has been little published on Sandback’s extraordinary alliance with Dia. Essayists Julian M. Rose, Corinna Thierolf and Edward A. Vazquez, as well as conversation partners Matilde Guidelli-Guidi and Curtis Harvey, unearth and explore archival documents, sketches and photographs to reveal how the institution offered Sandback both space . . . .go to book page >> | | Free Shipping UPS GROUND IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOR CONSUMER ONLINE ORDERS | DANCING FOXES PRESS/FRED SANDBACK ARCHIVEHbk, 8 x 10 in. / 136 pgs / 168 color / 20 bw. | 10/22/2024 | In stock | US $35.00 |

| NEW PUBLICATION Edited with text by Hilton Als. Text by Stephen Best, Daphne A. Brooks, Teju Cole, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Barry Jenkins, Jamaica Kincaid, David Leeming, Darryl Pinckney.
When author James Baldwin died in 1987, he left behind an extraordinary body of work: novels, poems, film scripts and, perhaps most indelibly, essays. A friend and supporter of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and Medgar Evers, Baldwin was a critical voice in the civil rights movement. After reaching acclaim in his early career as a writer, he struggled to retain the author’s I,” while taking on the we” of the people. Edited by Pulitzer Prize–winning author Hilton Als and growing out of his landmark exhibition at David Zwirner in 2019, God Made My Face brings together an impressive assembly . . . .go to book page >> | | Free Shipping UPS GROUND IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOR CONSUMER ONLINE ORDERS | DANCING FOXES PRESS/BROOKLYN MUSEUMHbk, 6.75 x 9.5 in. / 176 pgs / 80 color. | 3/19/2024 | In stock | US $39.95 |

| NEW PUBLICATION Edited by Rhea Anastas, Charles Gaines, Jamillah James, Eric Golo Stone. Text by Rhea Anastas, Maurice Berger, Charles Gaines, Catherine Lord, Fred Moten, et al.
In 1993, at the University of California, Irvine, Charles Gaines and Catherine Lord mounted a category-breaking exhibition of Black artists from different generations, working across Fluxus, Conceptualism, assemblage, photography and installation. Challenging the racializing of Black artists’ work, the exhibition confronted the discourse around race difference in the United States by including excerpts of writing by art critics who had discussed the featured artists. On the 30th anniversary of this event, this publication reprints the eponymous 1993 volume documenting the show, which contained essays by Gaines, Lord and Berger, and the transcript of a roundtable of artists and writers. | NEW PUBLICATION Edited by Lauren Cornell, Karen Kelly, Barbara Schroeder. Text by Lauren Cornell, Ruba Katrib, Bernardo Mosqueira, Erika Verzutti.
This volume takes an expansive view of the bold and influential practice of Brazilian artist Erika Verzutti (born 1971), surveying more than 60 pieces made over the past 15 years. In Verzutti’s art, moons recur as symbols of renewal and the multiple phases that a person or entity can pass through. Her work presents novel modes of perception by orbiting outside set systems of being—zooming out, in a telescopic sense, to the point where the relations we take so seriously here on Earth can be rethought. Vibrant illustrations of individual works and installation views of New Moons, the artist’s first . . . .go to book page >> | | Free Shipping UPS GROUND IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOR CONSUMER ONLINE ORDERS | DANCING FOXES PRESS/CENTER FOR CURATORIAL STUDIES, BARD COLLEGE/INSTITUTE FOR STHbk, 8.25 x 11 in. / 160 pgs / 100 color / 30 bw. | 1/16/2024 | In stock | US $40.00 |

| FORTHCOMING Edited by Leslie Hewitt, Karen Kelly, Barbara Schroeder. Text by Leah Meisterlin, Uzma Rizvi. Conversations with Dawoud Bey, Bradford Young, Sharifa Rhodes-Pitt.
In 2012, Leslie Hewitt (born 1977) and Bradford Young (born 1977) produced Untitled (Structures), a series of silent, nonlinear film vignettes that grew out of an invitation from the Menil Collection, Houston, to consider the museum’s civil rights–era photograph collection. The invitation, which inspired years of research into the aftereffects of the Great Migration, the civil rights movement and the ongoing struggle for human rights, prompted Hewitt and Young to shoot new work in Chicago, Memphis and Arkansas in an array of important sites, found and not found in the museum’s photographs. | FORTHCOMING By Douglas Crimp. Edited by Karen Kelly, Barbara Schroeder. Introduction by Lynne Cooke.
Pioneering AIDS activist, art critic, educator and curator Douglas Crimp is known for the fluidity and acuity of his writing on an array of passions. His book AIDS: Cultural Analysis/Cultural Activism (1987) deconstructed the art world’s complicated and mostly disheartening responses to the AIDS crisis; On the Museum’s Ruins (1993) explored postmodernist art practices in relation to the politics of institutions; and Before Pictures (2016), a brilliant combination of memoir and criticism, chronicled Crimp’s first decade in 1970s New York.
This new book collects the critic’s incisive pieces on dance (a lifelong interest) and dance on film, which, according to Artforum, . . . .go to book page >> | | STATUS: Forthcoming | 6/24/2025 This title is not yet published in the U.S. To pre-order or receive notice when the book is available, please email orders @ artbook.com | DANCING FOXES PRESS/GALERIE BUCHHOLZClth, 7.25 x 8.5 in. / 224 pgs / 95 color. | 6/24/2025 | Awaiting stock | US $34.95 |
