In this intimate investigation, German-born, Russia-based photographer Mika Sperling (born 1990) confronts her trauma through three visual stories: a walk between her birthplace and that of her abusive grandfather; a family album where the portraits of the attacker are meticulously cut out; and an imagined conversation between Sperling and the deceased culprit.
Hamburg-based artist Mika Sperling (born 1990) examines how origins, culture and language influence interpersonal relationships through photographs of her young daughter and Vietnamese stepmother. Originally trained in a documentary tradition, Sperling here experiments with perspective, close-ups and reflective surfaces.
