This artist’s book by Bea Schlingelhoff (born 1971) gathers together 366 capping phrases used for koan practice, a fundamental part of Zen Buddhism. Schlingelhoff invites us to think about the contents of the phrases, but also to reflect on such a practice in our contemporary times.

Through drawing, sculpture and typography, German artist Bea Schlingelhoff (born 1971) interrogates the ideology and history of the respective sites of her exhibitions. This monograph surveys 15 years of her work. Each book is bound in different endpapers from the private collection of the artist’s father.
