American painter Margaret Evangeline (born 1943) is best known for her steel paintings, which she marks by shooting them with guns. The series depicted in her latest monograph Sabachthani were created in collaboration with American troops stationed in Iraq in 2011. Evangeline sent white metal bars to the soldiers, who shot and then returned them.

American painter Margaret Evangeline (born 1943) is as likely to take a gun to stainless steel as a brush to canvas. She considers both acts part of her investigation of the medium, calling her bullet-hole works an attempt to understand “the sensation of painting without the paint.” This monograph surveys her expansion of the terms of painting.
