The young Polish-born, Berlin-based painter Slawomir Elsner derives his paintings from photographs found in art books or in the media. For this project, Elsner took the Polish weekly magazine Panorama as a starting point, taking two illustrations from each of the 52 issues published in 1976 (the year of his birth) to draw out motifs that exemplify the habits of media manipulation, and repeating them to expose and cancel their effect. Elsner's pictures ultimately often stand diametrically opposed to their source materials.
