A massive catalogue raisonné/artist’s book surveying the latest “chapters” of work from the acclaimed abstractionist
A 616-page hardback volume with a padded cover and thread stitching, Book is a cross between a catalogue raisonné and artist’s book by R.H. Quaytman (born 1961), following in the path of her landmark 2011 publication, Spine. Since 2001, Quaytman’s output has been modeled on the structure of a book. Each body of work combines painted and silkscreened images on wood panels to create densely layered compositions that shift between abstraction and figuration. Book traces Quaytman’s work from 2010 through 2020 and includes hundreds of illustrated plates alongside installation floorplans and exhibition schematics. The design has been created in close collaboration with the artist and features a number of reference materials compiled by Quaytman ranging from art historical references to familial explorations. In addition, the artist contributes a new text for the book.
