Santeri Tuori: Time Is No Longer Round Published by Hatje Cantz. Text by Santeri Tuori. A sublime photographic montage of nature, featuring multiple paper changes and a printed cloth binding In this beautiful and giftworthy photobook, Santeri Tuori (born 1970), Finnish photographer and leading figure of the Helsinski School, creates sophisticated montages of trees, tangled branches and clouds, arranging countless photos side by side or on top of each other. This method results in nearly abstract, fascinatingly complex images of nature. The eye is no longer guided toward a vanishing point around which a single image is organized; instead, viewers luxuriate in an inexhaustible wealth of perspectives, which are arranged in a linear fashion suited to the book form itself.
At the start of the book, we look upward into treetop scenes, which are followed by images of clouds; eventually we become immersed in an abstract, multi-perspectival entanglement of treetops.
Santeri Tuori: Time Is No Longer Round is a brilliant exploration of the possibilities of book form, and of the inventive depiction of nature.
