Haase studied ballet and worked in theater before turning to photography. She has worked for major magazines and international clients for more than 25 years, moving between fashion, (celebrity) portrait and reportage. Her oeuvre is characterized by a particular lightness or geniality: the women come across as cheerful and larksome, yet they are always self-determined and strong, sexy and stylish. For Haase, narrative is the goal, whether by means of motion blur; lyrical, delicate, or brash colors; or black and white rich in contrast. Esther Haase was born in Germany in 1966, the daughter of an artist and a photography and design professor. International commercial and editorial clients, exhibitions and published books including Sexy Book and Short Stories have all contributed to her growing success. Haase lives in Hamburg and London.
