Yoon Ji Seon (born 1975 in Seoul) uses an array of techniques in her portraiture, for instance adding sewing to her self-portraits--distorting her face with rhythmic quilting stitches whose lines recall painting--or using handmade paper. Reminiscent of archaic masks, these works deconstruct human appearance and create chimeras--some humorous, some nightmarish.
