The Helsinki School Volume 4, A Female View Published by Hatje Cantz. Text by Andrea Holzherr, Timothy Persons. Photography has become one of Finland’s most visible cultural exports, with graduates of Aalto University’s School of Art and Design in Helsinki exhibiting all over the globe. This fourth volume of the successful Helsinki School series presents works by 22 female photographers from Finland, both up-and-coming and established: Elina Brotherus, Nanna Hänninen, Maarit Hohteri, Wilma Hurskainen, Tiina Itkonen, Ulla Jokisalo, Aino Kannisto, Sanna Kannisto, Sandra Kantanen, Eeva Karhu, Marjaana Kella, Milja Laurila, Anni Leppälä, Jaana Maijala, Susanna Majuri, Riitta Päiväläinen, Nelli Palomäki, Marjukka Vainio, Ea Vasko, Niina Vatanen, Saana Wang and Pernilla Zetterman. The work of these photographers ranges in style and theme from Tiina Itkonen’s documentary-style pictures of Greenland and Anni Leppälä’s theatrically staged interiors to the painterly nature studies of Sandra Kantanen.
