Baghdad-born Ahmed Alsoudani left Iraq for the United States in 1999. He studied painting at Yale University while seeking political asylum, and graduated in 2008. Currently based in Berlin, Alsoudani's work reflects the troubled contemporary history of his home country, while participating in a tradition of painting that depicts war and atrocity.
